Singapore Public Holidays 2027: Dates, Festivals and Long Weekends

Which public holidays fall on a Monday in 2027? When can you plan a long weekend, and which festivals are coming up throughout the year? Knowing the holidays in 2027 early can help you plan a trip, arrange family gatherings, or set aside time for something you’ve been wanting to learn.

Singapore’s public holidays include national celebrations and religious festivals that reflect the country’s diverse cultures and traditions. Some holidays also create opportunities for a longer break, depending on the day they fall and your usual schedule.

In this guide, you’ll find the Singapore Public Holidays 2027 List, with the dates and days of the week, along with interesting facts about the celebrations and tips to help you plan your year.

What Are the Public Holidays in Singapore?

Public holidays are days the government officially sets aside as days off from work. In Singapore, there are 11 of them each year. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) announces the exact dates. The 2027 dates were released in June 2026.

Why There Are 11 Holidays?

Singapore had 16 public holidays until 1968, when the government cut the list to improve productivity. Before making the change, the government consulted religious groups and allowed each group to keep two holidays. As a result, holidays such as Thaipusam and Easter Monday disappeared from the list.

Singapore Public Holidays and Their Meaning

The list covers national days and festivals from different communities.

  • National and general: New Year’s Day, Labour Day and National Day. National Day marks Singapore’s independence in 1965.
  • Chinese: Chinese New Year, also called Lunar New Year. It’s celebrated over two days, with family dinners, visits to relatives and red packets.
  • Muslim: Hari Raya Puasa celebrates the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. Hari Raya Haji is linked to the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.
  • Christian: Good Friday and Christmas Day.
  • Buddhist: Vesak Day, the most important day in the Buddhist calendar.
  • Hindu: Deepavali, the festival of lights, which stands for light winning over darkness.

Fixed Dates and Changing Dates

Some holidays fall on the same date every year. These are New Year’s Day, Labour Day, National Day and Christmas Day. The others follow the lunar or religious calendar, so the dates change each year. Good Friday always lands on a Friday, but which Friday varies. The Hari Raya dates are confirmed by the Office of the Mufti on the eve of the holiday, so they can sometimes shift by a day.

Polling Day

Voting days for general and presidential elections are also public holidays, but they’re declared under separate election laws. They don’t reduce the usual 11. That’s why 2025 had 12 public holidays, after the general election on 3 May.

The Extra Day in 2027

All 11 holidays are being observed in 2027. There’s also one extra day. Monday, 8 February is also a public holiday, because the second day of Chinese New Year falls on a Sunday.

Long Weekends in 2027

The holidays in 2027 create five long weekends. Each one is a three-day break with no leave needed:

  • New Year’s Day: Friday, 1 January, to Sunday, 3 January
  • Chinese New Year: Saturday, 6 February, to Monday, 8 February
  • Good Friday: Friday, 26 March, to Sunday, 28 March

Holidays in the Middle of the Week

Three holidays fall midweek: Hari Raya Puasa on a Wednesday, and Vesak Day and Deepavali on Thursdays.

Taking one day of leave can turn these into longer breaks. Deepavali is the easiest. Taking Friday, 29 October off gives a four-day break from Thursday to Sunday. Hari Raya Puasa works the same way with two days of leave, on Thursday and Friday, for a five-day break.

May is the best month. Three days of leave can give nine days off in a row. Taking Tuesday, 18 May, Wednesday, 19 May, and Friday, 21 May off links the weekend, Hari Raya Haji and Vesak Day into one break from 15 to 23 May.

Holidays on Saturdays

Labour Day (1 May) and Christmas Day (25 December) fall on Saturdays in 2027, so neither gives a long weekend. If you work a five-day week, though, you should still get another day off or an extra day’s pay. Check your contract to see which one applies.

Make Your 2027 Plans Early

From Chinese New Year to National Day and Christmas, Singapore has quite a few public holidays to look forward to in 2027. So it’s a good idea to check the dates now, see which ones give you a long weekend, and decide how you want to use them before your calendar gets busy.

Even a single day can be useful when you plan it well. You could visit a new place, spend time with family, or start learning a skill you’ve been curious about. A little planning now can make your time off in 2027 more worthwhile.
