SkillsFuture Credit: Expiry, Usage and Credits Left

If you have SkillsFuture Credit sitting in your account, you probably might be wondering whether you need to use it before it expires. The truth is: most of the SkillsFuture Credits do not expire. However, one particular top-up did. The one-off S$500 SkillsFuture Credit top-up rolled out in 2020 expired on 31 December 2025. Other credits, including the opening S$500 SkillsFuture Credit and the SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career), do not currently have an expiry date.

So, if you are checking your balance in 2026, it helps to know which credit you have, what is still available and what you can use it for.

Does SkillsFuture Credit Expire?

It will solely depend on the type of SkillsFuture Credit you received. The original S$500 SkillsFuture Credit, given to Singapore Citizens from age 25 – no expiry.

The one-off S$500 top-up introduced in 2020, however, had an expiry date of 31 December 2025. Any unused amount from this particular top-up can no longer be used.

For Singaporeans aged 40 and above, the SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career) introduced in May 2024 also does not expire.

What Happened to the S$500 SkillsFuture Credit that Expired?

The S$500 top-up was introduced in October 2020 to give Singaporeans more support for training and skills development during the pandemic. Unlike the original SkillsFuture Credit, this was always a time-limited top-up.

It expired on 31 December 2025, and the deadline was not extended. To use it, eligible individuals had to enrol in an eligible course and submit their claim within the required period before the deadline.

The top-up should also not be confused with your original S$500 SkillsFuture Credit. If you still have money remaining from your opening credit, that balance does not disappear simply because the 2020 top-up expired.

How Much SkillsFuture Credit is Left in 2026?

There isn’t one fixed balance for everyone. Your remaining amount depends on your age, the credits you have received and how much you have already used.

For example, Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above may still have some or all of their original S$500 opening credit. Singaporeans aged 40 and above may also have access to the S$4,000 SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career).

The easiest way to know exactly how much you have left is to check your own SkillsFuture Credit wallet rather than calculate it manually.

How Can You Check Your SkillsFuture Credit Balance?

You can check your available credit through the MySkillsFuture portal. Log in using Singpass and access your SkillsFuture Credit information. You will be able to see your available balance and relevant credit details.

This is especially useful if you have used SkillsFuture Credit for previous courses and cannot remember how much remains.

What are the Best Courses to Use Your Remaining SkillsFuture Credit For?

SkillsFuture Credit can be used to offset the fees of eligible skills-related courses listed on MySkillsFuture. The courses available cover many areas, so you do not necessarily have to choose something directly related to your current job. Depending on your career plans, you could look at areas such as:

• Artificial intelligence and digital skills
• Data analytics
• Cybersecurity and IT
• Digital marketing and e-commerce
• Business and management
• Sales and marketing
• Food and beverage
• Career transition and professional skills

In fact, information and communications, food and beverage, and sales and marketing were among the popular training areas reported by SkillsFuture Singapore in 2025. Courses that are SkillsFuture claimable can be learnt through Info-Tech Academy – provider of WSQ courses such as AI course, leadership course, corporate training for employees and much more.

Can SkillsFuture Credit Be Used Together with Course Subsidies?

Yes, SkillsFuture Credit can generally be used on top of applicable government course subsidies for eligible courses. This means a course may already have a subsidised fee, after which you can use your available SkillsFuture Credit to offset some or all of the remaining amount, subject to the course and funding conditions.

What Happens If You Do Not Use Your SkillsFuture Credit?

For credits that do not expire, there is no need to enrol in a course simply because you are worried about losing the balance. Your opening SkillsFuture Credit and SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career) can be kept for future eligible training under the current scheme.

That gives you room to be selective. Instead of choosing a course just to use the credit, it may be more useful to save it for training that fits your career plans, fills a genuine skills gap or helps you move into a new role. The exception was for the 2020 one-off top-up, which has already expired. Any unused balance from that top-up is no longer available.

How Should You Make Better Use of the Credits You Have Left?

Start with the skill rather than the credit. Think about what would actually be useful in your work over the next few years. If AI is changing your industry, for example, an AI course or digital skills course may be more relevant than a general programme. If you are planning a career switch, a more substantial reskilling programme may make better use of your available credits. You can then search MySkillsFuture for eligible courses and compare the course content, provider, schedule and fees before enrolling.

SkillsFuture Credit is there to reduce the cost of learning. Since most of the credits available today do not expire, you can focus less on “How quickly should I spend it?” and more on “Which skill is worth spending it on?”
